More than one year on from the beginning of full-scale war in Ukraine, following eight years of attritional conflict, and in the face of Russia’s barbaric attacks on civilian populations and infrastructure, the people of Ukraine remain resilient in their drive to liberate their land. With the continued support of freedom-loving, democratic nations worldwide, the fight continues.

The provision of military support and assistance for Ukraine, led by the UK and its defence industry, is ultimately what will be required to win this war. Nonetheless, broader financial firepower is just as important to ensuring a safe and sustainable future for Ukraine in the long-term.

A recent assessment by the Government of Ukraine, the World Bank Group, the European Commission, and the United Nations, estimates the cost of reconstruction and recovery in the country will be at least USD 411 billion – a figure larger than the entire economic output of Denmark.

Private sector investment is essential. Businesses in the UK and across the globe are looking for ways to support Ukraine but have a myriad of questions around how to navigate the business, regulatory and political challenges in the country even as Russia’s missiles are raining down.

That is why we announced the opening of Rud Pedersen’s new Ukraine office in Kyiv, yesterday.

Our Kyiv office is led by Myron Wasylyk, a deeply experienced and highly regarded American-Ukrainian business leader, government relations and strategic communications adviser. Myron comes with more than 30 years’ experience counselling companies in Ukraine and the wider region on their international outreach, and supporting international investors on their market entry and positioning within the country.

Myron has also previously served as Chair of the Board of Directors at the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine and Director of Public Relations for the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center.

Myron and his team in Kyiv are now ready to advise clients with current activities or stranded assets in Ukraine, as well as those investors looking to participate in the post-war reconstruction effort, on their engagement with the policy and regulatory system. This fledgling operation is backed by the full resources of Rud Pedersen, 500 experts across 15 European offices. Our teams in the major decision centres of London, Brussels and Berlin draw great strength from the firm’s Nordic values and market leadership combined with Baltic passion, creativity and resilient spirit. From Warsaw to Oslo, from Paris to Vilnius, everyone at Rud Pedersen is dedicated to the victory of the Ukrainian people.

We are fortunate to have enlisted such a respected figure as Myron and to have made this concrete commitment to the recovery and renewal of Ukraine, proudly as one of the first specialist communications consultancies to move into the country alongside our clients.

Whether your company is British-centred or runs international operations through London, let’s talk about how we can help you to play your part in Ukraine’s future.
